Maggie MacKenzie started writing in 2020 in reaction to COVID-19. It was a way for her to stay creative while staying safe and she found that she loved it. Writing was an opportunity for her to play with structure and felt like a natural step for her after a lifetime of voracious reading and theatre-going (among all the other things Maggie does in theatre).

For World Theatre Day 2023, Maggie was asked to write a blog post about making a career as an artist. This opportunity came out of @artist.money Maggie’s instagram page dedicated to exploring the taboo of money in an artistic fields.
Lola, Nanay, Anak
Lola, Nanay, Anak was written by Maggie Mackenzie and Kodie Rollan for Theatre Jupiter’s (exp)lore podcast, a site specific audio anthology. Inspired by Kodie’s experience as a first generation Fillipinx-Canadian and Maggie’s experience as a mixed-race (Dutch, Scottish, and Indonesian) woman, Lola, Nanay, Anak examines loss and intergenerational connection. Postal
Postal was written by Maggie MacKenzie as a part of Theatre BSMT’s Anthology series Bonnidale. It was also featured in Ghostlight Theatre Production’s Fear the Festival. It is a horror comedy inspired by Maggie’s experience living alone with a mail slot in her door and the ways multi-level marketing schemes prey on vulnerable women. (Strong Language)
